This video is based on a true account of one passenger on Continental Airlines, where multiple Continental employees failed to follow standard procedure, handled the passenger’s bag without permission, and conveniently managed to lose it. To this date, Continental gives no explanation for the employees’ violations of procedure and holds no employee accountable.
Despite providing evidence of the lost items Continental Airlines still refuses to pay for the bags lost contents, such as heirloom family jewelery.
This incident demonstrates the airlines hubris regarding customer service and indifference to passengers belongings. Airlines are thriving while surprisingly only compensating less than 6% of passengers for lost bags. The notion that passengers may have to keep an eye on their carry-on bag for fear of the crew mishandling it, or worse, means that sleeping through your red-eye or international flight may be a thing of the past. We believe passengers should of course be aware of their belongings, but they should not have to add to the irritations associated with flying the anxiety of lurking incompetence or thievery, like one might find at a bus station.

Executives from the financial institutions who received funds from the $700 billion banking bailout faced their critics on the House Financial Services Committee on Wednesday February 11, 2009 in Washington. The chief executives at the hearing are: Kenneth D. Lewis of Bank of America, Robert P. Kelly of Bank of New York Mellon, Vikram Pandit of Citigroup, Lloyd C. Blankfein of Goldman Sachs, Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase, John J. Mack of Morgan Stanley, Ronald E. Logue of State Street, and John G. Stumpf of Wells Fargo. Their silent response to the questioning tells the whole story.
Since this time, these companies have offered little relief to consumers. In fact, they have raised rates on millions of more Americans to help pay for growing credit card losses. The apathy of the American public to this additional “taxation” by the banks is beyond belief. Add to this the fact that Executive pay at the banks is going back up in 2009 (NYTIMES APRIL 25th 2009), and you see we are no longer a nation that believes in “United We Stand,” but rather “Everyman for Himself.”

My hero, Dave Ramsey, tells of abusive practices and the violation of Federal law incorporated by debt collectors – particularly credit card debt collectors. Most people do not know that they have rights guaranteed to them by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and debt collectors knowingly and habitually break these laws in order to frighten them into paying.
IT IS NOT AGAINST THE LAW TO OWE MONEY!
Do not allow yourself to be lied to (example: “You’re going to go to jail if you don’t pay this” is one of their favorites!) or treated without the dignity you deserve.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS UNDER THE FDCPA:
Collectors can NOT call you before 8 am or after 9 pm
Collectors can NOT threaten to have you arrested or charged with a crime if you dont pay
Collectors can NOT continue to call after you have indicated you want them to stop (record your conversation with them, tell them you ARE recording it, write the date and time down in a journal, and follow up with a certified letter stating they may no longer call.)
Collectors can NOT call friends, family members or colleagues repeatedly in order to get you to pay (they may call your acquaintances ONCE in order to track you down and may NOT mention that you owe money or give ANY information that would lead someone to believe that they are attempting to collect a debt.)
